Are traps gay? This point has been argued numerous times in the comments of a variety of articles here on geopatogen.ru, and this video (which Marie asked me to introduce) may offer some additional perspectives on the subject. We’re not saying you have to think a certain way, or change your mind, just consider the subject from a different angle that may not be part of your experience.
Personally, I found this video quite amusing. Natalie delivers a sizable dose of comedy while presenting a call for awareness of your fellow humans. The looming angry head of Ben Shapiro and examples of content from a few other famous trolls helps to emphasize the absurdity of the arguments used to support hateful and abusive behavior.
We’re not above some level of perpetuation here, either. We cater strongly to dickgirl porn. While I believe dickgirl porn originates in a completely different fetish than trans porn, it could also be a vehicle to treat trans porn more positively. After all, sex positivity is one of our values.
Back to the video, which dispenses rather quickly with the chromosomal argument and clarifies that this is not the extent of biology. I want to elaborate a bit on the biology argument, since it is one of the major points to reconcile in my field of study; so, let’s get all sciencey and shit. Your genetic makeup (genotype) does not change. However, the physical expression of your genetic makeup (phenotype, also biology) can be changed with hormone therapy and surgery.
Natalie discusses attraction, and this is also important to the misunderstanding of the biological argument. Your attraction is based on what you can experience with your senses. You can sense phenotype, you cannot sense genotype. Those chromosomes themselves have no impact on whether or not you find a person desirable.
To be fair, there is some research that indicates men can subconsciously smell when a woman is ovulating, which increases his attraction to her. However, this is not the end all be all of heterosexual attraction, and I suspect doesn’t change anybody’s mind about whether a woman whom has had a hysterectomy or been through menopause is attractive. Either way, this aspect of the biological argument is about reproduction, which doesn’t have any bearing on whether sex with a trans person is gay or not.
Well, that’s enough biology, so let’s put a little more perspective on a point the video makes about cultural norms. The feeling of needing to live up to the cultural norm of masculinity is the source of all the hateful shit, but let’s look at that norm from another angle. To truly live up to that norm of the independent, confident, cocksure man is actually to reject it. Otherwise you’re just a submissive follower being controlled by it.
Anyway, there are many more points raised in the video that are worth looking at. Enjoy the video, then maybe take the time to read or reread Franaus’ article.
