There’s a special place in my heart for sex games. Little of the porn out there is interactive, and only a fraction of that has been crafted with a hefty amount of effort and care. It’s just hard work making a narrative and game mechanics when throwing fucking bodies up on the screen satisfies a lot of people. So I was pleasantly surprised when Digital Seductions’ Cockwork Industries arrived on my plate. The setup is simple, but without many of the inane cliches and tropes present throughout the genre: You are Dwayne, a lucky contestant who’s won both entrance to Cockwork Industries and a special place amidst its activities as it nears completion of Project: Fut[ure]. Oh, and to be up front, this is an adventure sex game, rather than a dating sim or fuck simulator.
Cockwork Industries (despite its telling logo) isn’t a porn factory, but a body enhancement company. I was surprised they didn’t have a dozen dickgirls running around throughout the facility, but that’s okay; the quality is still excellent. From its beautifully rendered scenes and characters, to the very solid music, and the diversity of romances in playthroughs, there’s a lot to enjoy here.
You aren’t jumping into fucking immediately, either, so you have time to get to know the characters and pull apart some of the plot in the first half of your playthrough. It was also nice seeing a gay romance option, and one that wasn’t just purely “tacked on,” though it has less to do with the core plot because of its optional nature.
As you get further into the game, though, there’s more and more plot and character to find – a distinct pleasure, truly, though there’s plenty of fucking to enjoy as well. It was hard to pick a favorite romance from the options for me, and the fetishes and “feel” of each option is distinctly different – so if you have multiple interests like I do, there’s a good amount of replay available.
Controversially, there’s a “one save per chapter” feature. While I like that it prevents you from doing certain shenanigans, it also makes skipping parts you’ve already played through to take new paths more time consuming to do. That said, the early parts don’t drag on and on, and you can skip plenty of different content areas if you’re zeroing in on a particular path.
Although the game’s creators, Digital Seductions, are newcomers to our store, they’re 3DX veterans who have definitely put in the work – and the polish shows. That polish and the sex alone is worth the $14.99 price, but there’s loads more on offer than just that. So go on, get seduced by the cockwork!
